Thank you Chair,
I would like to thank the Co-‐facilitators, Chef de Cabinet Susan Malcorra, Chair of G77 & China, our Development partners especially EU, members of the Secretariat and all our experts for their tenacity, commitment, hard work, sincerity, respect for member states and groups and also for NGOs and Civil Society leaders and more importantly, for their spirit of doing good things for humanity. I thank you all.
- We have come a long way and we know that all our concerns may not be truly reflected in the document, yet it is a ‘balanced document’. Therefore, my delegation that believes in consensus and multilateral processes are ready to adopt it.
- This document will guide us for next 15 years and beyond and therefore, we all have to work together in partnership, I repeat in partnership, for the good of mankind, to help eradicate poverty and hunger, achieve gender parity and to have a pro-‐people, pro-‐planet, more inclusive, more equitable, peaceful, sustainable world for all where no one is left behind.
- When we talk of ‘no one is left behind’ and also Universal Human Rights, dear Co-‐ facilitators, I have been attending debates and negotiations on this document and, correct me if I am wrong, I never heard anyone, either in the G77 & China or in the Plenary, objecting inclusion of ‘migration status’ in Para 19. Unfortunately, it is no longer there. Question is: Is it a typo? Or is it a work of some unknown operatives? Should the global leadership and their conscience remain insensitive to the human rights of migrant population?
Distinguished Co-‐facilitators,
- This transformative agenda is for all of us, both developing and developed countries and to achieve its goals which will make real changes in the life of millions, we have to have ‘means of implementation’ through enhancing political commitment, trust and confidence building. Through collective will, I have no hesitation to say that we can achieve our goals that we set for ourselves, a milestone. If we do that, the global community, rank and file, and our future generations including the one who is on the lap of Madam Malcorra will surely be proud of us.
