Statement by Nasir Uddin, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York to introduce the zero-draft resolution on “Criminal accountability of United Nations officials and experts on mission”, Sixth Committee, 06 October 2022, Trusteeship Council

Mr. Chair,

I thank you for giving me the floor.  I warmly congratulate you on your election to the Bureau of the Sixth Committee for the 77th Session.

Together with First Secretary Ms. Sarah Zahirah Ruhama from the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York, we have the honor of co-coordinating the informal consultations for the draft resolution entitled “Criminal accountability of United Nations officials and experts on mission”.

Over the day, we closely followed the debate and now, as the co-coordinator of the resolution, please allow us to communicate our plans on the way forward for the negotiation of the draft resolution on this agenda item. We have the intention to circulate a zero-draft of the resolution tomorrow on 07 October 2022. The zero draft will contain technical updates of last year’s resolution.

The first informal consultation of the draft resolution will be held on Thursday, 20 October 2022 immediately after the close of the meeting of the working group on Criminal Accountability that afternoon. In the meantime, we humbly request member states to send us their proposals in writing for substantive changes to the zero draft of the resolution by Monday, 17 October 2022.  Proposals received by 17 October 2022 will be circulated for consideration at the first and subsequent informal consultations. We shall remain available for consultations and questions.

We look forward to working with all delegations towards the successful conclusion of our work on the resolution.

I thank you all for your kind attention.
