In a groundbreaking development, today, the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted Bangladesh’s one of the flagship Resolutions entitled ‘Natural Plant Fibres and Sustainable Development.’ This resounding support is a testament to the international community’s recognition of Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development through the thoughtful and sustainable use of natural fibres like jute, cotton, and sisal.
The resolution urges member states, to champion sustainable production, consumption, and use of natural plant fibres for sustainable development. It emphasizes political support, resource mobilization, capacity-building, and effective management to drive momentum for the sustainable production, consumption, and use of natural plant fibres at the global, regional, national, and local levels. The resolution also recognizes natural fibres as a commendable alternative to synthetic and plastic-based products, highlighting that the production, consumption, and use of natural fibres can contribute to achieving the 2030 agenda.
While introducing the resolution today, the representative of Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations in New York expressed gratitude to all delegations for their active engagement, flexibility, and contribution to strengthening the resolution and achieving consensus.
In his statement, the representative stated that the government of Bangladesh, under the able and visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, takes the resolution very seriously. Underscoring the complementary role of natural plant fibres in mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity, the Bangladesh representative called for international cooperation to ensure the full implementation of the resolution.
It is noteworthy that Bangladesh first tabled this resolution in 2019 at the 74th United Nations General Assembly and since then this resolution has been adopted by UN members bi-annually.

আজ জাতিসংঘে বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম ফ্ল্যাগশিপ রেজুল্যুশন “প্রাকৃতিক উদ্ভিদ তন্তু এবং টেকসই উন্নয়ন’ সর্বসম্মতিক্রমে গৃহীত হয়। পাট, তুলা এবং সিসালের মতো প্রাকৃতিক তন্তুর সুচিন্তিত ও টেকসই ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে পরিবেশ সুরক্ষায় ও টেকসই উন্নয়নে বাংলাদেশের অটল প্রতিশ্রুতির বিষয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়ের জোরালো সমর্থনের স্বীকৃতি বহন করে এটি।
অন্যান্য বিষয়ের মধ্যে, রেজুল্যুশনটি জাতিসংঘের সদস্য দেশগুলিকে প্রাকৃতিক উদ্ভিদ তন্তুর টেকসই উৎপাদন ও ব্যবহারের জোরালো আহ্বান জানায়। বিশেষ করে এটি জাতীয়, আঞ্চলিক ও আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যায়ে প্রাকৃতিক উদ্ভিদ তন্তুর টেকসই উৎপাদন ও ব্যবহার নিশ্চিতকল্পে সদস্য রাষ্ট্রগুলিকে রাজনৈতিক সমর্থন জোগাতে এবং এতদসংক্রান্ত তাদের সক্ষমতা বিনির্মাণে প্রয়োজনীয় সম্পদ আহরণে উৎসাহিত করে। বিশ্বের প্রাচীনতম শিল্প হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়ে রেজুল্যুশনটি প্রাকৃতিক তন্তুকে কৃত্রিম এবং প্লাস্টিক-ভিত্তিক পণ্যগুলির একটি উত্তম বিকল্প হিসাবে বিবেচনা করার জন্য বিশ্ববাসীর প্রতি আহ্বান জানায়। সর্বোপরি, ২০৩০ উন্নয়ন কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন তরান্বিত করতে প্রাকৃতিক তন্তুর উৎপাদন ও ব্যবহারের উল্লেখযোগ্য অবদান তুলে ধরা হয়েছে এই রেজুল্যুশনে।
আজ জাতিসংঘে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে রেজুল্যুশনটি উপস্থাপন করার সময় বাংলাদেশ মিশনের প্রতিনিধি জাতিসংঘের সকল সদস্য রাষ্ট্রসমূহকে রেজুল্যুশনটির নেগোশিয়েশনে তাদের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত ও সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহনের জন্য এবং এর বিভিন্ন প্রস্তাবে ঐকমত্য অর্জনে অবদানের জন্য আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন।
প্রতিনিধি তার বিবৃতিতে বলেন, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে বাংলাদেশ সরকার এই রেজুল্যুশনটিকে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্ব সহকারে বিবেচনা করে। জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের নেতিবাচক প্রভাব প্রশমনে এবং জীববৈচিত্র্য রক্ষায় প্রাকৃতিক উদ্ভিদ তন্তুর পরিপূরক ভূমিকার ওপর জোর দিয়ে বাংলাদেশের প্রতিনিধি রেজুল্যুশনের পূর্ণ বাস্তবায়ন নিশ্চিত করতে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়কে প্রয়োজনীয় সহযোগিতা প্রদানের উদাত্ত আহ্বান জানান।
উল্লেখ্য যে, বাংলাদেশ ২০১৯ সালে ৭৪তম জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদে সর্বপ্রথম এই রেজুল্যুশন পেশ করে এবং তারপর থেকে এই রেজুল্যুশনটি জাতিসংঘে দ্বি-বার্ষিকভাবে গৃহীত হয়ে আসছে ।
